Before You Arrive Checklists for New Student Orientation

If You Are A Freshman Student

Registration for classes is on a first-come, first-served basis so make sure you sign up as soon as possible.
You will need a CUNY Portal ID to register for classes at Orientation. Click on to the link: www.cuny.edu, click on “Log-in”, then click on “Register Now”, and follow the prompts to create a student user name. It is recommended that you use the prefix of your MEC email, which is in blue text firstname. lastname@student.mec.cuny.edu
CUNYfirst, your student information system will be a major part of your life at MEC. During orientation, you will use CUNYfirst to register for classes. Spend some time learning how to use it before coming to orientation. Explore the course offerings at MEC so that you can jump right into the registration process during orientation. To learn more about CUNYfirst, click on the website: https://myinfo.cuny.edu using your computer or other electronic devices. Log-In using your Blackboard / CUNY Portal credentials.
You must have a completed immunization form on file with Medgar Evers College before you can register. You may fax a completed form to the Office of Health Services (718) 270-6075 or bring the form in person to Room 217, located on the second floor of the Student Building (1637 Bedford Avenue).
If you have taken Advanced Placement exams, please request that Educational Testing Services send scores to Medgar Evers College, Office of Admissions. Only official grade reports will be accepted.
To apply for Financial Aid or if you need more information about Financial Aid, visit Medgar Evers College financial aid website: http://www.mec.cuny.edu/finaid or visit http://fafsa.ed.gov/. Students applying online, can they get online assistance from our Financial Aid dept. You can contact the Financial Aid Office at 718-270-6133.
If you have yet to submit your high school diploma to Admissions; you are still welcome to attend orientation and register for classes. However, a copy of your High School Diploma must be on file before the first day of fall or spring classes.

If you served in any branch of the military or are currently in the reserves, and would like to utilize your benefits, please bring with you the following documents;

DD214
Certificate of Eligibility
Statement of Service or Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) – if you are currently serving in the reserves component.

All Medgar Evers College students are required to take a Math course and are encouraged to do so early in their college career. The COMPASS test determines which Math course you may take. Students who have not taken the COMPASS Math Placement test cannot register for any Math course that has a pre-requisite, or any science course that requires Math. In addition to Math, you will also be able to take Writing and Reading Placement Exams. Call the college's Testing Center to schedule your placement exams at 718-270-4835.

If You Are A Transfer Student

If you are a transfer student, you must come to the Admissions Office to complete your transfer evaluation. You may contact the Admissions Office at 718-270-6024.
